Revamp Gala

Belugas, anemones, music, eco-fashion and applauding courageous women.  It was a night to remember!  Gowns by Pure Magolia eco bridal couture (made In Canada, from sustainable fabrics) and Jewellery by Mirror Mirror Bijoux.  We have a special treat today: NY Photographer Richard Lecoin took some lurvely photos of the models.  Big up to Richard https://twitter.com/Dj_NyRichardNy.  You’ll see his RDL initials in the photos he took (they will be interspersed).  Here are my favorite two shots of his:

Style-Diet Shot – Alex Smoking Lily with vintage chair

“On matters of style, swim with the current. On matters of principle, stand like a rock.”

 – Thomas Jefferson

Alex is wearing a mauve Smoking Lily Dress with skeleton and flower prints, http://www.smokinglily.com/.  Apparently the more edgy prints sell better in Vancouver than Victoria.  Interesting…. The earrings and necklace  jewellery is passed down from Alex’s grandmother: high-end Sherman costume jewellery from many moons ago.  The bracelet is bought and made in EU of  resin and gold leaf.  The bag, bought “new’, is actually vintage/recycled sink remade into a handbag and purchased in Sheffield, England.  The chair is vintage 1950s in vinyl leopard skin.

The Style-Diet Shot celebrates individuals with unique style, wearing at least one article of clothing acquired via the Stephens’ Sisters Shopping Diet. It must be local, sustainable, second-hand/re-purposed, inherited or ethically produced. If you can’t find clothing fitting that criteria then it must be from a country with stellar human rights records.

Alex is wearing a we3 skirt http://www.we3.ca/ made of hemp.  It was bought in Vancouver at Twigg and Hottie http://twiggandhottie.com/.  It has neat gatherings on the sides and back for awesome textured rouching (is that a word?).  The bracelet, bought at Twigg and Hottie as well, is re-purposed silver ware, the ends of two spoons artfully crafted together.

Alex found this Japanese kimono in Soho New York in the 1990s.  It is authentic Japanese silk of un-known vintage.
